Thanks to everyone who submitted suggestions, on Facebook, for the text block of this painting. I ended up choosing Hilde Mari's suggestion. It's a reference to a speech Kennedy gave on June 26, 1963, in Berlin. The actual quote goes: " ...Ich bin ein Berliner." -translates as "I am a Berliner", or rather "I am one with the people of Berlin" There was an urban legend that Kennedy spoke the phrase incorrectly, and had actually said "I am a Jelly Doughnut". There is a particular type of doughnut made in Berlin, named a "Berliner". As it turns out, Kennedy did a great job, people had fun with the pun on the jelly doughnut. And now, we hope Obama does a great job, and we're having fun with this pun on the HAMBURGER! He is one with us Americans, the Hamburger People! HA HA!
Thanks Hilde Mari!
